Port 2253 is used for the operation of the remote installation service (RIS) in Microsoft Windows. It is used to transmit disk images from the server to a client computer during operating system installations over the network. However, this port has been deprecated since Windows Server 2008, and the Windows Deployment Services (WDS) now replaces the RIS.
