Port 23 is used for Telnet, which is a protocol commonly used to provide remote access to a computer over a network. It allows a user to log in to a remote system and execute commands as if sitting directly at the console. However, Telnet is considered a security risk as the communication is not encrypted and can be intercepted, so it is recommended to use a more secure protocol such as SSH (Secure Shell) instead.
