Port 1540 is primarily used for communication with the remote procedure call (RPC) endpoint mapper service. It is used to map Remote Procedure Call (RPC) protocol sequences and relating unique endpoints that utilize dynamic, short-lived ports that vary day by day on a server to the actual ports in use on the server. It is a standard port for Windows-based RPC traffic.
