Port 1189 is used for the unencrypted version of the Network Control Program (NCP) protocol used by Novell NetWare. It is used to communicate between the server and the clients, enabling access to files, printers, and other network resources. However, this protocol is now considered outdated and has been replaced by more modern protocols.
